Zero QRN here; excellent receiving conditions. Wonderful and strong openings to
JA both Saturday and Sunday evenings here.
Two hours into the contest, the series matching capacitor for the 160-m
shunt-fed tower started arcing, causing the amplifier to kick out. Despite
three trips to the base of the tower in total darkness, I could not identify or
bypass the problem, and had to run with just the K3S barefoot on that band for
most of the rest of the contest. I was amazed at the DX I could work with just
50 and 100 watts! Lots of great ears out there!
Thanks to all the DX stations that got on -- especially those in the Southern
Hemisphere who are in their summer "off season" for QRN.
