Comments:

Another exciting and fun contest from Harbour Rock villa in the beautiful Turks
and Caicos islands. On arrival the team got busy converting the SO station into
a M/2 contest station. Brought in another K3, added the EA4TX interlock box and
in band antenna switch ahead of the Sixpak. Added a homebrew box to warn for in
band and out of band antenna switching. Put up the A3S tribander and an 80-40
trap dipole to supplement the existing 40-6 SteppIR and 80M Inverted Vee (which
also needed shortening to 75M). All QRV when the opening bell rang. As usual,
20M turned out to be the money-band with 40M close behind. While 80M and 160M
are always a low power challenge, we were pleased with the results. 160 came
through nicely with thanks to many ops who moved to 160 for us. Additional Q's
and mults on second night. 15M was VERY slow to open on Sunday which hurt the Q
total as well as mults with VP5 being too close to the SE US to fill the blue
boxes there. 10M was nonexistent for us. The end of the contest was the most
exciting close of any contest we've done. Ted had asked K7BG and N0GC earlier to
move to 80M 5 minutes before the end of the contest. Cheers rang out as we first
logged K7BG for SD and in the final few seconds N0GC in ND gave us a
"Roger,Roger Roger" when asked to confirm!
Wayne, was master omelette maker with Ted joining in to cook delicious lunches,
but both carried the heavy load of BIC and productive runs. John put in his
share of shifts in the run chair as well as using his experience to guide us in
band selection. Jim organized the station transition and was available to
troubleshoot any problems and handled the Saturday night "graveyard"
shift which brought in some good 160 and 80 runs and mults. Free time hanging
out in and around the infinity pool with liquid refreshments close at hand
enhanced the incredible panoramic view over world-famous Grace Bay from the
K4QPL villa on Providenciales.
Overall a great experience. Thanks to all for the Q's and patience in copying
during less than perfect conditions.
Station:
2 Elecraft K3's
SteppIR 40-6M
80M inverted vee
80-40 trap dipole
160M Inverted L, Single tuned elevated radial.
Maximum heights about 35' AGL but 130' AMSL above Turtle Cove with a 180 degree
view of the Caribbean facing north.

73,
John, K4BAI
