Comments:

First of all, thanks to Doc N4WW for letting me take over his station while he
was traveling out of town.

This was intended to be a low-pressure, easy-going, M/S operation for the
purpose of training three new operators. Unfortunately, all three were
"no-shows" for legitimate personal reasons. I ended up operating by
myself as SOAB Unlimited, but since I had not anticipated doing so, I was not
able to operate the whole contest.

I was intending to be part of the C37N team again, but with travel complications
I had to revise my plans. In any case, this was the first DX contest I have
operated under my own call from the U.S. in more than 15 years, and it was great
fun!

Conditions here in Central Florida were what I expected based on the solar
indicators. The low bands were pretty decent on Friday night but I had to leave
at 0600Z. On Saturday morning 15 opened to Europe for a couple of hours, and 20
was hot and cold throughout the day. The low bands were very noisy and
unproductive on Saturday night, and I had to leave at 0300Z anyway. On Sunday 15
never opened to Europe at all. The only stations to the east I worked were three
stations in South Africa. 20 was jam-packed full of signals for several hours
during the late morning and early afternoon, but I was unable to achieve a very
high rate either running or S&P. By around 2000Z the second day, I had
worked everything I could hear on all bands. I spent most of the last four hours
calling CQ on 20 and 40 with limited success.

All in all, I had the most fun you can have in a phone contest. :-) If I do it
again, I'll make sure I can stay for the whole contest.

Thanks to everyone for the contacts! Especially those old friends who called to
say hello.

Bill K1MM
