Comments:
Well, this year's WPX contest was a great way to spend the final two days of
self quarantine after a trip to the USA in early March. I didn't quite know
what to expect in operating from the home station with a single antenna at 70
feet and line noise of S5 to S9 in all directions except due east. But
conditions were very good to the USA during all daylight hours, with good
activity, and the Saturday opening to Europe was quite good for about two and a
half hours. My special apologies to all of the JAs that called that I could not
work - there were times that there would be a buzz of callers beneath the noise
level - that part was really frustrating, but there was nothing I could to to
rectify the QRN level.
I had wondered if the Coronavirus Crisis might bring about an increase in
activity. Sure enough, I worked quite a few old friends and acquaintances from
all over the world during the weekend, some of whom I hadn't QSOed in years.
For me, the highlight was on Friday evening when Eduardo, OA4SS, called. It was
a chance to stop and say hello, and remind him of the great help he provided to
N6KT, N6BT, and me to line us up to operate at 4T4O from the Radio Club of Peru
for WW SSB back in 1982. That was many years ago, but it also seems like just
yesterday.
Thanks to all for the QSOs. Stay Safe.
73,
Gary
