Comments:
Very good activity for this sprint. Worked 28 different calls and heard an
additional three. Eight stations were worked from every stop. Including W9SZ
(QRP portable) at least 100 miles away. Thanks to all that stayed on into the
last hour.
Went to 4 grids; setup once in each. No mobile contacts. Three stops were on
top of parking garages, one stop was at ground level. The grid corner is in a
Chicago suburb with few open areas between the buildings. So, is it best to
stay very near the corner, moving quickly between grids to work each station as
often as possible while sacrificing longer distance contacts? Or is spending
more time driving to higher locations (parking garages) with more
setup/tear-down time better to enable working more multipliers? With good
activity outside of the Chicago area, this time the higher locations up in the
clear paid off.
Contacts were USB=70, FT8=16, CW=1. Peak rates included 10Q's in 3 minutes.
Setup was K3 to Demi XVTR to Moto 100W PA. Antenna was the back 15 elements of
an old KLM 432-30LBX at 10’. Fortunately, no rain during setup or tear-down
at each stop.
Will have eight bands for the microwave sprint. Sounds like there will be good
activity in the Chicago area for that one.
