                    Microwave Spring Sprint - 2020

Call: K9JK/R
Operator(s): K9JK
Station: C0ROVEROLLA

Class: Rover LP
QTH: IL-4 spots
Operating Time (hrs): 6

Summary:
Total: QSOs = 15 Max Dist(km) = 161 Total Score = 270

Club: Badger Contesters

Comments:

I ended up being a 'captive rover' for K9PW/R except for one "DX" QSO
with N9LB on 3.4G CW (that was 60% of my total score). Net, net, just TWO
callsigns in my log.

Nice sunny weather for the day. Locations used were: EN51xu83 (ground level),
EN61av46 (ground level), EN61av76 (a parking deck) and EN52xb91 (also a parking
deck).

902 MHz was just an Alinco DJ-G29 with the rubber duckie, all 4 Qs with K9PW/R,
max 14 km.

3.4 GHz was a DEMI transverter with a 'pyrojoe' amp, 30 W to an 8' loop yagi, 4
Qs with K9PW/R, max 14 km but also the 1 Q with N9LB at 161 km.

10 GHz was K9PW's '2nd generation' set-up for the band that he has loaned to me
multiple times. Home satellite dish, offset feed with a DEMI transverter,
approx. 2 W. 4 Qs with K9PW/R with the same max of 14 km. A try was also made
with N9LB on 10 G but was not successful.

24 GHz was another set up on loan from K9PW. Some DB6NT components with a small
horn, maybe 100 mW? Only 2 Qs completed with K9PW/R, max 9 km.

47 GHz was also a set up on loan from K9PW, basically a 'raw' mixer from DB6NT
to a small horn - maybe a milliwatt? Tried to contact K9PW/R from three of the
spots I visited, one of which was only a 2.2 km path (that we completed on the
other 4 bands) - I was able to copy Pete's signal but he was not able to copy
anything from me (these were some of the "just one way or nothing each
time" on 47G that Pete mentioned in the comments to his posting).

As always, thanks to all who were on and to CSVHFS for their continued
sponsorship of the Spring VHF & UP Sprint series and to the program
committee of KA2KQM, W0ZQ and WB8BZK who do the heavy lifting for the Society.

One more Spring Sprint to go...50 MHz. Still time to 'catch' the "Spring
Sprint 'virus' " ;-).

73, JK
