Fun contest! Part-time effort and took the lesson learned from this years
Contest University and Rob Sherwood's explanation of when to use a preamp versus
attenuator. For almost 40 years I didn't know any better keeping the preamp on
all the time (when I had one). I want to add a variable attenuator versus the
switched 20db pad to more granularly drive down the 751A's noise floor and let
the AGC do its thing properly.
My modest station worked Egypt on 40m Saturday evening riding the Gray Line -
that was a highlight for me as I continue to learn and improve.
