Well, that was interesting! I was here at home and George, (W0UA, was socially
distant (7 mi) at his QTH. So we were half remote. I would have never guessed
that I would be doing remote contesting because of a worldwide virus pandemic
but that is the hand that life has dealt. I had a lot to learn in a pretty short
time and would have been totally lost without the help of my good friend, Jeff,
W2FU. He spent many hours helping me to understand networking and all the
intricacies of remote operation. THANKS Jeff.
George didn't seem phased by the change of location and I think he even enjoyed
having the company of his pet, Mister Kitty, during the long hours of operation.
Very little time was taken off by either of us over the weekend. For me,having
George's computer and rig right on my table next to me felt like he was really
here as usual. I never felt alone. THANKS George.
We were pleased, if not a little surprised what a couple of senior citizens were
able to do with the new technologies. It was fun. The bands were really
interesting. Ten and fifteen were a great bonus. Our great hobby didn't seem the
least bit phased by the public health situation and though being distant is the
name of our game the closeness of all our worldwide friends never faded.
I think that the future will see more remote and hybrid operations here. I am
gathering equipment and, hopefully knowledge to make a M/M effort possible in
the fall.
73 to all and STAY WELL
Chuck
