Comments:

I accepted an invitation form Ray, N6VR, to work a contest from his QTH in Chino
Valley. We decided on WPX CW. I arrived at Ray's QTH on Friday morning and we
had a nice long conversation on what we wanted to accomplish. We decided on
doing SOABHP Assited. Spent the afternoon touring his awesome station and
getting the feel for the station. Had 2 K3's set up that could use any of the
antennas available. One had a AL-1200 amp and the other had a Ten Tec Titan. ran
a comfortable 1200 watts all weekend without any issues whatsoever. The radios
were not set up as an SO2R setup but I could just switch the headset over and
one click on the Keyboard I was on the other radio. I only used the 2nd K3 with
the AL-1200 a few times. I noticed that 20M was open to Europe pretty lateer in
the afternoon than I was used to seeing here in AZ so I decided to start on 20M.
Boy was that a good decision as the Eastern EU stations were pounding in. Stayed
there to at least 0530Z before going to 40 ( I checked 40 a few times but really
didn't here. but didn't hear many EU stations ) tried running but mostly US so
S&Pd as many 6 pointers as I could until my first JA and then what a run of
Asian stations I had until around 1400Z. Took a short break then got up and ran
20 meters occasionlly checking 15 and 10, which were mostly US stations.
Basically ran 20 until around sundown and then went to 40. 40 was a little
better to EU but not great. I went back and forth between running and S&P
for awhile with a slower rate than I liked. Checked 20 again around 0300 and it
was booming to VK/ZL, JA, and Europe all at the same time so I ran a good rate
there until around 0700 before returning to 40 and running good rates of Asians
until 1300Z. I was at 34 hours at this point so and rate qwas slow and 20 only
had US ( I did here a loud DA2C but not anywhere near runnable ) so I decided to
take off and run my last 2 hours at the end. Boy was I not dissapointed as 20
meters was rocking. I improved my score from around 4.5meg to 5.08 meg in the
last 2 hours and my mults jumped form 883 to 923. I used the K3 in SO2V mode so
I was running and grabbing spots at the same time!! Overall a great time was had
at the awesome N6VR station. Thanks to everyone who called in and looking
forward to the Fall Contest Season! Ray, we will be back!
