Comments:
K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care
retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC. In the
2020 WPX CW, N3UM and W3GB operated HP Multi—-2 with a 6-ft.
hyphen, and a big plexiglas shield between us.
Our goal was to top our previous best CW WPX claim of 1.78M in
2018, when we did only 24 hrs BIC due to non-ham-radio obligations.
Also, as a guide to what might be possible we had N3UM’s 2009 SOHP
Non-Assisted claim of 2.2M when SFI was 70, same as this year.
We passed our 2018 claim at 1510Z Sun. after 22.2 hrs on, passed
the N3UM 2009 claim at 2110Z Sun, and claimed a final 2.51M.
At the 00Z start N3UM ran on 40m at 74 Qs/hr for 3.3 hrs, then ran
and clicked spots for 73 Qs on 80m by 0440Z. W3GB clicked spots on
20 and then 40m for 153 Qs, mostly mults, till 0719Z QRT with
totals of 469 Qs, 354 mults, and 1812 Q pts.
Sat. was slow; we started at 14Z. N3UM got 22 Qs on 20m and 55 on
15m by lunch at 1610Z. W3GB got 43 Qs on 20m and broke to eat at
1830Z. N3UM got 105 Qs 0n 20m from 1840Z till supper at 2140Z.
From 0020Z to QRT N3UM was on 80 and W3GB on 40m. At 0330Z QRT we
had 793 Qs, 542 mults, and 2648 QSO pts.
Sun. we started early, and offset our breaks. N3UM ran on 20 m.
1110-1245Z for 86 Qs, then clicked spots for 40 more Qs by 1410Z.
After that, one of us was on 20m in every hour till 23Z, and
together we got 139 more 20m Qs plus 15 Qs on 40m.
At 23Z, score was 2.26M; in that last hour, N3UM ran for
43 Qs on 40m and W3GB got 20 Qs on 20m, for more QSO pts (262)
in any hour since 02Z Sat. That and 20 mults got us to 2.51M.
