Comments:
Thanks to Ray, W2RE for making his wonderful remote station in Summit, NY
available for use in this contest. All operators were youth: Mason, KM4SII (17),
Charles, AA4LS (13) and Connor, W4IPC (18). We operated SO1R with Connor
operating the beginning and end of the contest, Mason operating the middle
period (after finishing his SAT exam Saturday morning), and Charles operating in
between.
The station performed well, especially on the high bands. The bands themselves
weren't terrible, but also can't be classified as overly exceptional either.
While FT4 did at times produce higher rates, all the QRM triggered many repeats
and incomplete QSOs. Thus, FT8 was often more effective during periods of high
QRM on FT4.
An intense thunderstorm came directly over the station causing a period of
extreme QRN and rain static, but fortunately it cleared up soon after. Apart
from that period, mother nature left us alone.
Again, thanks to Ray W2RE and the Remote Ham Radio Youth Program for the use of
the great remote station. http://www.w2re.com/summit/

Thanks to everyone who called us!
