2020 WAE DX Contest SSB - OE1CIW
... or let the force (of QTCs) be with you 🤣🤣🤣
Normally i didn´t take part in SSB contests since a long time because i really
❤️ CW and CW is so much more efficient than SSB but i tried it in spite of
everything ...
Activity seemed to be down though given conditions with no sunspots since 24
days, not surprised. Fortunately we didn´t have any aurora at least so
conditions were fair to poor. Due my poor working conditions i didn´t expect i
could reach anyone at all and i already was focused to give just some points to
anyone who can hear me.
But don´t forget the force of the QTCs! Yes i only got 74 stations in my log
but i tried to get multipliers not only with new countries ... i was discovering
a passion for QTCs! Funny story because years ago when i started to do
contesting i really hated QTCs because i didn´t know how to use and how to type
them in the log without many errors and so i didn´t know what an incredible
multiplier it is! Look at the scores of the Contest Online ScoreBoard - i´m at
the same score level like stations with 200 or even 300 contacts 😎
And btw i was far away of 36 possible operating hours ... TIME ON 18:06
10 m was completely closed all the time, good conditions on 15 m at sunday
evening to South America but nothing heard on 15 m from USA. 20 m just worked 2
(!) stations from USA ... normally there are much more in the log, 80 m i could
only hear VY2ZM and KC1XX but couldn´t work them due bad antenna SWR and lot of
noise due my poor indoor antenna.
What i have learned (again):
+ some guys have really incredible ears ... like VE2IM on 20 m!
+ some guys don´t seem to have any ears 😄
+ some things will never change ... like operators who are calling CQ CONTEX
+ some things will never change ... when i´m begging for QTCs and get a
"NO - i don´t have QTCs at the moment" ... and just some seconds
later the same guy gives QTCs to another station 😝
+ conditions can be always worse ... last 2 hours the conditions were really bad
- propagation was getting worse because MUF went down
Joyful:
+ nice answer from KP2M "nice to see you at 20 m on PHONE (!) ..."
+ nice to hear german numbers from VY2ZM on 40 m 🙂
My highlights:
40 m: A4 Oman, EA8 Canary Islands, HZ Saudi Arabia x 3, KP4 Puerto Rico x 2,
PJ4A Bonaire, TA Turkey x 2 , USA x 8, VE Canada x 6, 4X Israel x 4
20 m: D4Z Cape Verde, EA8 Canary Islands, KP2M US Virgin Islands, PJ4 Bonaire x
2, PY Brazil x 2, VE Canady x 3, USA x 2, 4X Israel x 5
15 m: A4 Oman, CB6 Chile, CT9 Madeira Islands, FR4 Reunion Island, HZ Saudi
Arabia, PY Brazil x 3, 4X Israel
Heard (but not worked):
40 m : CN8YZ Morocco, PY4BZ Brazil, VU2YVK India, ZF2LZ Cayman Islands
20 m: A71AE Qatar, BA3MM China, TI2OY Costa Rica
Thanks for the great experience to be a wanted multiplier and especially to
everyone who tried to give me a chance to be in the log - and for your
patience!
73 and take care
Cuagn in the Scandinavian Activity Contest CW upcoming weekend
