Comments:
Overall, this was a very enjoyable contest. Until mid Sunday afternoon, there
was a high level of activity on the SSB/CW portions of the bands as heard here
in Northern Virginia. There was a great tropo opening late Saturday night that
extended into Sunday morning to my northeast on all bands, notably providing 16
SSB/CW contacts to NY, CT, MA, VT, NH, and ME on 1296, 5 contacts on 2304 to NY,
CT, MA, and NH, and 4 contacts on 10 GHz to CT and NH. The opening was so
intense that I was able to work into CT, NH, and MA on 902 using 10 watts into a
printed circuit board log periodic antenna taped horizontally onto the shack
wall pointing northeast through a chain link fence.
By the numbers:
Total contacts 510
SSB/CW/FM contacts 395 (77% of total contacts)
Digital contacts 115 (23% of total contacts - 76% of digital contacts were after
Sunday 18:00Z)
New equipment and antennas (at least to me) on 6,2304, and 10 GHz also
contributed to my highest September contest score ever from this location (going
back to 2004).
Thanks to all the rovers and mountain toppers who traveled to put a lot of grid
squares on the air - especially K8GP/R, W3ICC/R, KJ2G/R, KA2RRA/R, NF2RS/R, and
N2DXT/R.
