Comments:

Thanks a bunch to the mobiles who helped keep the activity level and interest
high for this QP and also thanks to the home or portable entrants. Before this
effort I had only gotten in to fool around and hand out Q's to the in-state ops.
This is the 2nd weekend in a row I was juggling 4 contests. Noteworthy mobile
Q totals were N0HJZ (30), K0PC (13), Wi0WA (10), and W0ZQ (9). I was surprised
to have some 40m propagation even in mid afternoon. Last Q on 20m was 2020z and
was able to make Q's with N0HJZ on 40m right up until the end. Just think how
boring some of these QP's would be without the incredible travel some of these
ops undertake to help us play radio.

And now for a more disturbing commentary. I was unaware of the rules for this
party until I read K4BAI's remarks (tnx John). How in the world do they expect
me to bust my butt (literally, hi) trying to compete with in-state entries just
because I happen to run high power? Lumping both sides in the same category is
just plain ridiculous. That's why all the other QP's have separate categories
for in-state and out-of-state entrants. At least 3830 shows the correct way of
categorizing the results and that is why I made my entry for out of state high
power instead of getting listed against the likes of W0A. In reality, power has
nothing to do with trying to compete against an in state entrant. Awards aren't
the only reason I get in these QP's but it helps. I have managed to receive 3
plaques in the 5 years I have returned to radio and two of those were just in
the last year when I started to not just fool around. I still enjoy
participating for other reasons too but I might have to think about things next
year for the IA QP. The state QP challenge might also come into play next year
but I don't understand the reasoning behind the IA contest sponsors combining
entrants due to running high power. I don't know of any other similar QP rule.
