Yikes! Knocked out by ISP -
Congrats to the KC1XX, K3EST and K1TTT teams! Nice work!
We built a strong team of operators mixed between veteran ops and youths. Very
disappointed by the sudden ISP issue. I was the only op onsite while the rest of
the team was scattered throughout the world.
We have operated more than 50 contests remotely the past several years and this
a first getting knocked out by internet failure at the location.
Also a first was an Aurora during a contest from Maine - The first day was tough
in Maine - the aurora sitting over Canada - made its way to the NE corner of
Maine apparently. While we held our own through the night on 160/80/40 but once
10/15/20 opened we felt the effects of the solar storm being far NORTH and EAST.
Ops to the south of us were running EU we couldnt even hear this was also noted
on 40m. Yes, sometimes the propagation in ME has zero advantage. Jeff VY2ZM once
told me that the aurora can really screw up the bands being far north. Well,
we're pretty far north right on the Canadien border.
At 2200z or so the ISP crapped out. I still dont know what happened but it came
back on Sunday about 1000z, by then it was too late, I told the youths to start
a new log with their calls and have fun, fortunatley the backup generator kicked
in so I had heat throughout the night. We do have a savior for ISP in the future
that will solve these issues for good - Its called Starlink. Latest news about

The weekend prior to CQWW - the team of WW2DX, KC2UPN, WW1X and I spent a day in
Jonesport pulling out the old gear and installing FLEX radio and Expert 1K amps
(1000w) with our new servers. The FLEX RADIO portal remotely using our software
with builtin logger works absolutely perfect. The experience is unbelievable -
those who operated with us for the first time were blown away by the remote
system. Flex Radio has nailed it with the new 6600 and 6700 for us remote
operators and digital ops.
