Sporadic-E saved the day ! Contest started off slow, and initial goal was to
make a couple of contacts to send in a log. But by 0100z December 12, 10 Meters
was wide open to Florida, Texas and the northeast states. My station is minimal
-- 5 watts to an old Radio Shack CB magnet mount whip placed on the lid of a
Weber BBQ grill on the patio. SWR less than 2 to 1 on the grill for 10 Meters.
Station after station answered me. Even some DX such as ZF5T, ZF2WF, CX5A and
several LU stations made it into the log on Saturday. ZF5T was over s-9 via Es.
Sunday morning some short E-skip to W9 and Minnesota/South Dakota. Even worked
K0DI/3 in DC! All contest contacts were "hand made" ie. with a hand
key, analog radio, and logged on paper.
