N3BB 2020 Dec Big Stew

Enjoyed the combination of S&P and then (trying to find) locating a clear
spot to CQ. Lots of activity. Many "interlopers" as not everyone could
hear everyone else. Very crowded at peak times.

Conditions seemed good, but noisy from storms elsewhere in the country. As
usual, EU DX was tough. No JAs heard in my one morning session. Some really
determined ops in this one so there will be some terrific numbers from NR5M and
others.

The QSB ups and downs on 160 are so fascinating as stations will pop up and then
dip down. Ya gotta catch 'em on the upswings. The scoring based on distance is
really interesting.

Station: Direct-fed 45G tower vertical (90 feet high) with two radials at about
18 feet (W5JAW design) for TX, located on a hill top. Triband yagi on top. Very
poor rocky soil/dirt. An SAL-30 RX array about 400 feet away down by the barn
and creek.

K3 and an Alpha 87A at 1.3-ish KW.

Four hours and 40 minutes of on-time in three segments.

Thanks to the Boring ARC and all for the great end-of-season Stew Perry fun.

Stay safe and have a nice stay-at-home New Years.

73, Jim N3BB
