At the end of the recent ARRL RTTY RU contest, the controller for the SteppIR
DB-36 failed. The only good news was that it still seemed to be set for 20m. As
a result the antenna that rotates (DB-36) could only be used on 20m, and the
tribander that is stuck at about 110 deg was the only other choice.
Started on 15m and found a very quiet band with only a few signals. Primarily
hear stations answering CQs without hearing the CQing station. Whenever I
attempted to CQ, it seemed that I was sitting on top of someone I couldn't hear.
20m was very busy and noisy.
I think K6LA was the only S.Calif station I heard on either 20m or 15m.
