Comments:
Thanks again to Frank Donovan, W3LPL, for letting me invade his basement and use
his fine M/M station for a single band effort. All of the engineering effort he
has put in to allow in-band S&P operation to support his Multi-Multi contest
efforts makes SO2R for a single band contest a lot of fun. I just added an SO2R
controller to his current two-position 160 meter position!
Due to an incoming Winter storm, I only operated 27 hours. I usually take a nap
Sunday morning before driving home but didn't want to drive through snow and I
was tired so I quit at 5:00AM EDT after the band closed to Europe and a sweep
through the band found no new calls to work.
I'm enjoying learning two keyboard SO2R with N1MM. It has really cut down on my
errors - now I need to work on not hitting F1 on the wrong keyboard when I'm
tired, but SO2R is much smoother. The new feature N1MM added to show whether
the SO2R audio is in "Split" or not also helps reduce errors. I need
to get in the habit of looking at BOTH entry windows so I can see that status.
Thanks to the N1MM team for their hard work.
N1MM says that 412 of my QSOs were S&P - almost all of these would have been
second-radio QSOs with a few made while looking for new run frequencies. That's
39%. In low power, I get "pushed around the band" a good bit!
I found running Saturday night between 1875 and 1885 very effective. Around
Euorpean sunrise, I had a steady stream of 10 point callers from Europe and I
ended up with 173 ten-point QSOs.
I missed ND, WY, and SK - along with the difficult northern Canadian sections:
NT, NU, and YT. I also missed Alaska.
I'm glad that the CQ 160 Contest still has single operator categories. It was
fun to "unplug" for the weekend and have the thrill of tuning through
the band and being surprised and pleased when I found a multiplier! :-)
I never heard the 3V8, TC3, or LU. I couldn't get through to LX1NO but I worked
most of the other multipliers I found. Only one KH6 and nothing further. I had
a ZL call me but he faded out before I could complete the QSO. He was briefly
loud at ZL sunset.
Thanks for the points. Lots and lots of statistics follow.

Mark, KD4D
