K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care
retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC. N3UM and
W3GB operated Multi-2 in Feb. 2021 NAQP RTTY.
We hoped to beat the 541 Qs and 125 mults we got in Feb. 2020 in
11.4 hrs . We did that, big time; 1.23X as many Qs and 0.97X as
many mults in 11.2 hrs for 80.6K, vs 67.6K claimed 2/20. Average
rate for the whole test was 48 Qs/hr in 2020, 60 Qs/hr in 2021.
It helped that SFI was 79, Kp was 1 or 2, and more hams were home
and active. Also, we now have better F-key msgs and more on-air
RTTY contest experience.
In the first 4 hrs 18-22Z N3UM ran for 67 of 131 Qs on 20 M, and
W3GB ran for 70 of 126 Qs on 40 M; total rate 257/4 = 64 Qs/hr.
At 22Z we had 60 mults, half our final total.
>From 22-2308Z W3GB ran for 45 more Qs on 40, for a total run of
135 Qs. He stayed on 40 M till 0508 QRT, taking short breaks to
snack. He got decent rates till 02Z. After that 40 M went long
and slow, but he got HI, WY, AB, AK, CO2, and KP4.
At 22Z N3UM broke for chores and supper. Back at 2330Z he did
80 M till 0511Z QRT; he ran for 103 Qs 2354-0133Z at 64/hr.
The 00 and 01 hours were great, two-band totals 85 and 72 Qs.
Unlike 40, 80 M was good after 02Z, with 82 of 114 Qs in 4 short
runs and 15 St/Pv mults, 12 from MN west to CA.
On all bands we got DC, 7 VE Pvs, and all states but ND and NM.
