STATION W8QZA:

Radio: Elecraft K-2, 5 Watts.

Antennas:
  10-15-20 Meters: 3 el Stepp-IR up 32 feet
40 Meters: 1/4 wave vertical with 3 radials
  40 & 160 Meters: DX-LB trap dipole up 30 feet
  80 Meters: Inverted L with 2 radials
-----------------------------------------------
Conditions were quite good, although not yet good enough to work Europe on 15
Meters. Also, 15 Meters only provided 1 JA QSO. So we have a way to go.

In almost every contest I find one or two QSOs that I consider amazing for me,
and make the whole contest. However, there were no QSOs like that in this
contest. But it was remarkable for me to work Europe on 20 from morning all day
long and then at night up to 10:30 PM local time.

My DXCC was 49 (39 last yr) and WAZ was only 20 (22 last yr). I had 131 off
continent Qs (72 last yr) so two of these indicators certainly showed
improvement. The ops that travel to the Caribbean and elsewhere are still
staying home with the pandemic, and that suppresses the DX Qs.

10 M: Only 3 So America and one KH6.

15 M: No Europe and only 1 JA.

20 M: This was the work horse, of course. 55 European Qs (25 last yr) including
an LZ and one Zone 18 which is tough for me.

40 M: 25 JA Qs which really helped my score a lot! But no Eur or Africa.

80 M: All USA/VE. Not even a KH6!

160 M: My only 6 Band station was ND7K. This station is in AZ, about 220 miles
away, and they always hear me, ...even on 10 Meters! A few minutes later I got
NR6O who was a few KHz away and also strong.

I got 4 hrs of sleep Fri night and 5 hrs Sat night. This never bothered me a few
yrs ago but at age 81 it can cause more problems such as making simple errors
and, especially, sending CW with the paddle!

See you at the end of Sept for CQWW RTTY! ...Bill W8QZA - W6QU
