Lots of fun!

It was an honor to use one of the PVRC club calls, W3GRF. I really appreciated
it this year, knowing that a good friend of mine and many others, Lloyd, W3IUU,
had become a silent key several months ago. Lenny, W3GRF, helped Lloyd, W3IUU,
put his 60 foot AB 105 tower up in his small city lot many, many years ago. It
got a real workout and provided Lloyd with lots of fun for many, many years.

Tale of two contests.

Started well on 40 for a short while. Fortunately 80 opened a little while
after 40 went long and I had several good runs. Toggled back and forth most of
the night on these two bands until 0800Z when I hit the hay for 3 hours.
Overall, I was happy with the first half of the test. Still needed plenty of
mults, but what do you expect with 150 watts and wire antennas in a phone test?

The second half of the test started shortly after 6 AM. Fortunately, mults
slowly showed up and most were eventually worked. Heard the two I missed, SB
and NT, but no luck getting through. Actually, I never even tried to call
VY1CO; the pileup was simply too much and I knew he could never hear me. All my
20 and 15 contacts were S & P and I did have a few brief runs on 40 during
the day and on 80 Sunday night, but not a huge amount. Strangely I did hear 6
VE6 stations Sunday afternoon and was thinking none would hear me, but one did
eventually get into my log.

Still, it was a super test. Band conditions were just average, but fortunately
both 80 and 40 were reasonably good. It was great to work so many new and
casual hams....they made a huge difference.

Everyone take care and hope to see you all with more sunspots in 2022!

73, Gary WR3R
