Comments:
STILL dealing with antenna damage from March wind storm. 160m antenna is
completely wrapped around numerous tree branches. One wire of Inv V slopes to
the North while the other wire is now caught in tree branches and slopes to the
East, and now hangs over the house roof.! Not the most effective orientation for
an Inv V !
Starting the contest on Friday evening, I found the antenna did not work, so
just went around and called the louder stations. On Saturday, I was able to at
least get the antenna to load somewhat better, after pulling for about 30
minutes, on the loose end of the wire in the tree, and was then able to do some
running.
Had dinner guests early Sat. evening, so missed much of the better times. Was
able to get back on about 10PM Sat. evening. QRN levels on Sat. night were much
worse than on Friday night, but did subside later.
Antenna SWR is much higher than before, and had several instances of the Keurig
coffee maker turning off (!), while at other times the pager function of my
landline house phone would ring ! Never had problems before when antenna was
working. Will have to wait until a tower climber can pull 160m wire out of tree
limbs and reinstall in the proper orientation.
Missed Alaska and NT. Did 'hear' one very weak KL7.
