Comments:

Another full time effort to see how well the station and operator are playing
together. I beat last years score by 69 Q's and 8K points. Better EU DX
conditions on Friday night. QRN on Saturday night, due to storms off the
Atlantic coast, made things much more difficult. Not much EU heard or worked
both nights. Only worked 17 five pointers in total. Much more difficult to work
EU from SC than it was in MD.

Started the contest off by running with decent rates (70+/HR) for the first five
hours but probably should have done some more S&P to beef up the Q count a
bit. Stayed up until 3:30 AM local each night and finished the first night with
604 Q's in the log which was 50 less than last year. Got back on at 6 AM local
each morning putting over 130 Q's in the log on those morning sessions. Worked
stations almost two hours after sunrise. The second night is always a grind but
managed another 345 Q's between Saturday morning and Sunday morning which was
very good for me.

I missed AK,LAX,NT,MB sections. Heard LAX and MB but could not break through the
pileup to put them in the log. Worked LU8PDM twice to make sure he had my info.
Managed to break the huge pileup on TI5/N3KS and some other Caribbean stations
which was fun. Gave up trying to break the W2RE (NNY) pileup only shortly after
to find K1RDX calling CQ with only a few takers. Worked the following DX
C6,CM,EA8,F,FM,G,HI,K,KH6,KP2,KP4,LU,OM,PJ2,TI,UA,V3,VE,ZF. Worked lots of
Midwest and west coast stations.

Antenna is actually an 80 meter end fed half wave (all band) wire converted into
an inverted L for 160 meters with apex at 50 feet with 30 (75-100 foot) ground
radials fed with 200 feet of RG8X coax. No RX antennas yet. Radio is a Flex
6600M/100W.

Lots of fun watching the online scoreboard to keep motivated and spend more time
in the chair ! Many great scores were observed. I absolutely love the challenge
of a 160 meter contest on a small lot with modest gear.

73,

Joe
N3HEE
