Comments:
Florida is not a great place for little stations on 160. Anything much further
than the Carolinas or maybe Virginia is a challenge, though it can be pretty
easy to work ZF, CO, C6, etc. The contest did inspire me to get the 160 antenna
up, an inverted L with about 50 feet vertical and two quarter wave elevated
radials laid along the top of the fence separating our condo complex from the
outside world. During the day on Saturday the far end went from being up 15 feet
to being up 35 feet or so.
I considered a second night effort as W3USA, but heaven forbid that I
"manufacture" QSOs by using a new callsign from my QTH. It was also
partly decided by considering that W3USA is not an easy call to get through as a
weak CW signal. So I just kept plugging away the second night as K8MR.
The 10 Meter Contest has a pretty good chance of being a fun contest from down
here in Florida. Hope that is the case, and that I work many of you there next
weekend.
