Comments:
Home station, with 4 elements at 30' + 1 KW straight into a hill immediately
behind me. At least I kept the worms warm in this cold weather.
Felt like a VHF contest. 100% ground wave and sporadic E. Would work multiple
people in the same state.. first MD, then OH, then FL. No DX heard, not even
SA, but maybe I was on at the wrong times. Did work several new states towards
my 5BWAS.
This is probably a good lesson in why the Internet can be de-motivating. Was on
Slack with some friends. One was reporting working all kinds of E. Coast before
I could hear anything. I thought he was using his vertical (albeit without a
hill in the way) and got discouraged, deciding to go for a hike with my dog
instead. Later, I learned that he was operating remotely to a capable
mountain-top station. Still, I had a good hike before the big "atmospheric
river" hit. And regardless, this was destined to be a part-time effort, as
I had family obligations as well.
Hope others found some fun in it somewhere.
