Comments:
Thanks to the K6MTU team for use of their fine remote station. I'm still
debugging my remote hardware and software along with myself. Made more
progress while operating this contest weekend.
Conditions were good and held up better than expected with the forecast CME. 10
was fully open on Saturday, at least within NA, and must welcome after several
years of nothing.
An increasing number of stations are answering CQs with their exchange message.
Complying with their scheme, I respond with my exchange and QSL messages in one
transmission. Their QSL message, if they choose to send one, gets mixed in any
pileup with subsequent callers. I'm sure the users of this new
"technique" have carefully thought through its effectiveness.
I suppose we can thank the FT8/4 precedent of optionally omitting the WSJT-X Tx1
message in favor of calling other stations with the Tx2 exchange message. This
message tactic was rarely seen in CW/SSB/RTTY contests prior to the launch of
FT8 in 2017.
Then, there are a few participants who decided the required RST element of the
exchange is optional, contrary to the clearly stated Rule IV.
Speaking of rules, I once again forgot the single-op minimum off-time is 60
minutes, so there are three 50-55 minutes gaps in my 30 scoring hours.
