Comments:
My 160 meter loaded dipole, ordered in early December, has not shown up. So
again I ran 30 watts to the 80 dipole. Other than that the only change is that
the old FT-1000mp has been replaced by a K4.
Things were working well. I had a slow start but it improved at European
sunrise and 40 stayed open for several hours after.
Then Saturday we had a brief snow squall. The noise level came up just before
it arrived and forced me off the air. It was an unusual thunder snow storm. I
disconnected the antennas but something happened to the computer. I rebooted it
but one monitor was not working correctly, I could not connect to the cluster
node I was using, and the keyer intermittently stopped sending. I was able to
connect to some cluster nodes so I continued, putting up with the problematic
keyer.
I also noticed that at least one QSO was missing from the log. I made four QSOs
on 160. I don't know if any others are missing.
Propagation was good from here. 15 opened well and early Saturday. 20 is my
weakest band (except 160) and I usually cannot run early in the morning when
other W1 stations are working guys I can't hear. That wasn't a problem this
time. I did hear a lot of flutter on OH and SM stations on 15.
I'm definitely going to install a 160 antenna this year.
