Comments:

After many mostly-remote operations over the last two years, we finally were
able to do a real MM with the gang, contest chili and all, augmented with
several remote operators.   Propagation also showed up to the party in spades;
in fact, we had to scrap our original band plan, which called for a station to
switch from 15 meters to 80 meters, when it became apparent that 15 was not
going gently into that good night. There were times when the log was showing Qs
being made on all 6 bands at once (0300-0600z the first night); it's been a long
time since all six N6RO stations have been active at once.

This operation featured a special guest, Gary VA6RR, a long-time alum of the
original N6RO team; as well as Greg KK6PXT, making his debut at Radio Oakley.
Ken N6RO reports... "Excellent work by both our experienced ops and
newbies. Greg is enthusiastic and a quick learner. The high point for me was
hired gun VA7RR, who had the highest Q total on the team, mostly 20, despite
being new to both the K3 and N1MM. Gary first operated my San Jose station as a
teenager. Other than several Flex reboots and a mysterious loss of the network,
no hardware issues. A fine weekend score up 50%+, over last year."

Compared to recent years, the center of gravity has clearly shifted higher in
frequency, with more operators spending more time there, at the expense of the
lower bands. This was reflected in lower 160m and 80m numbers, and much higher
numbers on 15/10m. 40m had nearly the same number of Qs as last year, and 20m
had EXACTLY the same number!

Some comments about the bands:

160 meters: (N6RO) Ken reports, "160 was as bad as ever, even taking into
account that summer is coming. Very few Qs east of the Rockies, except PJ2T! 2
JAs Sat morning. Bad condx led to little participation stateside and certainly
by DX. More than a dozen Qs and a few new mults on the SREETCORNER frequency,
all my weeknight buddies."

80m: (W6DMW, KK6PXT, +N6RO)
The band was fruitful the first night even with its late start, as everyone was
still on the higher bands until well after dark. No EU, but a fair number of
Asia/Pac. The second night was plagued with weak signals, noise and an anemic JA
opening.

40m: (WD6T (evening/morning/day), WX5S (night), KK6PXT (day), +N6RO)
We kept 40 meters on the air for nearly the entire 48 hours. EU was audible
from the start, but not workable from here, so focused on running US, with some
fun rates. Around 0330, checked the EU spots and found it wide open; was able to
work most on the first call. The JA opening was decent, much better than in ARRL
DX SSB. YBs were plentiful and much appreciated. On Sunday morning, YBs
continued to be worked until as late as 1530z, when they seemed not to hear us.
But then several 10-over-S9 ZS's made their appearance. The days were spent with
throwing out friendly CQs and chatting with non-contesters who were kind enough
to stop by and throw us a bone.

20m: (VE7CC, K3EST, K6AW, +WD6T (last 2 hr.))
The workhorse DX band played its part as scripted, open to the world, with lots
of domestic action as well, with our veteran 20m DX ops at the helm.

15m: (N6WM, VE7CC)
Chris N6WM reports, "Friday/Saturday was an unprecedented experience, with
the band open well after 0500 on Friday, and incredible propagation worldwide,
leading to very strong EU most of the day, and culminated into a combined JA EU
simultaneous opening, not a regular event from W6. Great rates and great
propagation = great time!"

10m: (K3EST, VA7RR)
Friday night, 10 meters was amazing E2A, HS5, BA, JA in until about 10pm
local... a strange enhancement of sorts. On Saturday, nothing but 10 Ws until
about 2200z, then between 3-4pm 130+, then nothing! A small hard rain followed
by a drought... The VKs were loud and plentiful maybe 50+ of them worked even a
VK8. Then Saturday night, 10m Dead!

Many thanks to Ken for hosting us, and to all whom we worked. Stats below.

73,

Dave WD6T, for the NR6O/N6RO team
