Comments:

I ran my usual rover route starting at Colbert Heights in EM64dq, then operated
with a mobile loop through EM54 to a brief stop at EM55va, and a final stop at
EM65aa.

This was the maiden voyage for a pre-MFJ Mirage C2512G that I picked up a few
months ago on eBay. The wattmeter I had is only good to 100W on 222, and I was
pegging the needle, so apparently it was working! The preamp was not, but I
doubt I missed much because of that. I believe the extra power did make some
QSOs possible on the mobile loop that I would not have made with 25W.

222 activity in the Southeast is sparse compared to other bands, so there's no
real way to compete with rovers from the larger population centers. However,
the Carolinas and Georgia were well represented again, albeit with many stations
on analog modes only, making DX rover QSOs difficult and often impossible. Some
propagation would definitely have helped here, but that seemed to be in short
supply Wednesday night. In any event, it was a good opportunity to check out
the 222 rover station prior to the June contest and figure out where there is
room for improvement.

Special thanks to Steve, AG4V in Memphis for being on with his new 600W amp. He
was the only station I worked from all four grids.

Total DX worked = 6823 km
Best DX: AA9MY EN50fm worked from EM64dq = 669 km
Avg DX: 324 km

19 FT8 (one pre-7 p.m. CT)
