Comments:
A few days before the contest, I sent Kevin, N5DX, and Stan, K5GO, a propagation
screen shot showing the SFI at 158, SN at 138, and the A and K indices at 0 and
5 respectively. High hopes indeed when they flew in from Arkansas. Conditions
did not stay that way, as many others have noted.
Despite the propagation, the weekend was tremendously enjoyable. It was an in
person event which is always welcome, even though the station is fully
remotable. N5DX and K5GO maneuvered NYC traffic on Thursday evening to have a
haute cuisine dinner at Chipotle with myself and Scott, WU2X, the chief station
engineer. We all headed off to the shack for some last minute station
configurations, but not much was needed. All seemed to work as expected. A
new TS-890S is the latest (unnecessary) toy. She is a beauty with an
outstanding receiver, and a good complement to the K3S and TS-590SG that are the
mainstays at the station.
N5DX and K5GO had the most bic, which is good because the score would have
suffered mightily were it otherwise. Highlight was a stunningly good run on 15m
to Asia on Saturday evening. The four high stack of tribanders, each on a 36
ft boom, designed and built by WU2X on a 150ft K0XG rotating tower did
yeoman’s work this weekend and performed flawlessly. Not a single visit from
Murphy, which made for a stress-free weekend and a pretty decent score.
Hope everyone had a restful Memorial Day weekend.
