Comments:
By watching the prop during the week I had good expectations for this weekend.
As if we don’t get enough Sun here in Az. Ole sol showed up in a big way
again. After a few minutes when I first went to 40 meters, Europe totally
disappeared, the disturbance arrived!! Sounded like NAQP. Took my first 2 hr
break. When I returned at 0800 I still only my heard a few JA’s on 40. Soon
after I started running they showed up in numbers. Ran till around 1300 and took
another 2hr break. When I returned it was only USA. When Eu finally showed up it
was super disturbed signals. Crazy thing trying to copy S2 disturbed signals at
35 WPM..lol. Never really got any normal Eu signals until Sunday morning. Saved
my last 2 hours for the 2200-2400 banking on a nice JA run on 15 meters and man
it did not disappoint!!
I only looked at the scoreboard during breaks and looked like a nice duel with
NT6Q. NR7DX also had nice numbers… thanks for the motivation guys!
This was a fun time operating Unassisted in order to honor the Unassisted
Challenge competition with Chris / KM7W up in Shawmut, MT. Unfortunately he had
to cut short due to power issues. Can't wait to see how that station transforms
into a regional power house!
Thanks again Tim for hosting me. This ND7K station is awesome. Never imagined
having so many antennas at my disposal. Took me awhile ( like 5 contests ) to
really understand the full arsenal and man does it rock!! Once again the
IC7610’s were flawless. This operation was half 2BSIQ and SO2R. One more
thing, there was an incredible amount of repeats either from the disturbance,
QRN, QSB etc. Did not experience any real QRM issues except for a few
intentional ones here and there. Thanks to everyone for the Q’s and see ya all
in fall!
