Comments:
I WANTED TO TRY THIS CONTEST BECAUSE IT WAS AN INAUGURAL DIGI CONTEST SPONSORED
BY ARRL. I USED N1MM AND THE WSJT-X INTERFACE. MORE ISSUES TO REPORT THAN SPACE
SO HERE ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS: (1) 97% OF TIME IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE TO TELL IF A
CQ'R OR CALLER WERE ACTUALLY PARTICIPATING IN THE CONTEST! (2) A LOT OF CALLERS
DID NOT IDENTIFY THEIR GRID SQUARE AND COULD THEREFORE NOT BE LOGGED IN N1MM.
(3) ONLY 1 OF THE 6 STANDARD WSJT-X MESSAGES COULD BE MODIFIED; (4) THE STANDARD
WSJT-X QSO EXCHANGE INCLUDES SIGNAL REPORTS. THIS CONTEST ONLY REQUIRED CALL
AND GRID SQUARE. SIGNAL REPORTS WERE WASTED TIME. ONLY 1 PERSON SEEMED TO GET
THAT AND SKIPPED ALL THE UNNECESSARY STD EXCHANGE. (5) I WORKED ALMOST 12 HOURS
FOR 155 Qs! MAYBE I SUCK AT WSJT-X BUT I'M PRETTY SURE I CAN WORK 4 TIMES AS
MANY CW CONTACTS IN THIS AMOUNT OF TIME. IN CONCLUSION, ARRL AND WSJT-X
DEVELOPERS NEED TO RETHINK THIS CONTEST AND MAKE IT MORE INTERESTING AND
FLEXIBLE.
