2el coil-loaded 20m Yagi at about 25ft, IC-7100, fldigi, 90W (except...), from
AZ
After two months at my new QTH (just a few miles from the old one), I finally
got on the air. Just as I was getting the telescoping mast ready Friday
afternoon, yet another monsoonal t-storm rolled in, and I had pretty much given
up on operating Friday night. But, after it cleared out, I got everything up
and running and worked some nice DX between 0430-0530UT. Saturday afternoon
started well with 30 QSOs in the first 60 minutes (almost all domestic).
However, later I noticed that the IC-7100 was only indicating 25W output and the
current draw on the power supply was only around 7A. Same problem with other
modes on 20m, but the antenna is also resonant in the middle of the 6m band and
was able to get full power out there. May have been a problem with one of the
loading coils, but I was unable to figure it out. I now have room to deploy a
full-sized 20m Yagi, so hopefully it's a problem with the soon-to-be retired
shorty antenna. I was still able to make some QSOs and eventually made it to
100, but wasn't motivated enough to operate on Sunday.
Score calculated from fldigi log, so probably not exactly correct
