I went to the field to experiment with a couple of wire antenna's.  The 10 meter
contest was fun to dabble with while experimenting with a 5/8 wavelength
ground-mounted vertical (20 15-ft radials) and a 1/2 wavelength dipole at 35
feet. The dipole was installed for an east-west pattern. I didn't hear much
difference between the two antennas.  For this contest, I think the vertical
might be the winner because of the single support (tree) setup.  The dipole
needed two trees.  The rig was an Icom IC-703+.  The tuner was an Icom AH-4. 
The battery was an 18 Amp-hour AGM.
