Comments:
Worked the NAQP this evening to test out some old gear - albeit in a new and
perhaps one-of-a-kind configuration:
Rig: Collins KWS-1 / 75A4 @ 500w
Ant: JK 402T, 2 over 2
Keyer: AccuMemory keyer
The keyer is a project John KR0P cooked up as a project to learn Kicad and it
works great. Separately a uP which provides PTT sequencing and delays the CW in
time to ensure hot-switching is avoided, provides memory-repeat and DDS sidetone
generation. The KWS1 has been modified (yes indeed, horror!!!) to accept PTT
externally. All combined, the setup performs CW semi-break-in. The as-designed
Collins KWS1 CW operation required turning the mode switch at each T/R
transition - something you can get real-tired-of-doing-fast. The 75A4 has a 500
Hz filter which is a bit wide for the contest density but I was running very
high up in the band and the QRM was manageable.
Other than the memory-keyed "CQ NAQP" sequence, the rest was all
hand-keyed and to that end, I want to thank all the ops to struggled with my
poor fist and who provided the many Qs.
