Comments:
IC7610, Spiderbeam @ 40ft, loaded 40m dipole just below the Spiderbeam, vertical
for 80&160. YCCC circle RX array (boards by VE6WZ).
I had to relocate the Spiderbeam and mast in the days prior to the contest with
house construction starting [hopefully] soon, and I hadn't given much thought to
a serious effort. In hindsight, I really regret not bringing a second radio
down. I did what I could with SO2V, but really wish I could have been listening
two bands at times.
10m was disappointing, but seemed typical of January from Florida. 15 and 20
were good. 40 had bad RADAR QRM early, and lots of aurora late. 80 and 160
were better than previous days, but seemed to get noisier as the night
progressed. I followed my usual strategy of taking some time off early, but in
hindsight it seems that I could have done better had I just operated the first
10 hours straight. Things just got slow for me later.
At times I felt reasonably loud, at other times I was beating my head into the
keyboard. I need to get the house built so I can put up some tower sections and
"real" antennas.
Tons of activity - some huge scores out there!
73, Dave N2NL
