Comments:

Very limited operation this year with large gaps. Didn't feel the urge or
"calling" for a full-time PR-setting effort this year. Despite that, I
have a fondness for this contest and ARRL SS CW because they are great domestic
contests and ones that I can perform fairly competitively in - at least enjoy
myself and achieve some level of reward or satisfaction. Wow - this getting
pretty deep.

I guess I had higher hopes for the high bands. Yes, there was a higher level of
activity but not as much as I expected. On 10, 15, and 20, I only found success
by S&P. I mean we're all running 100W - how come I couldn't hold a freq or
get many to respond? Moving to 40 later I may have been late to the game - the
band had already gone long and anything "local" was plagued with
auroral flutter. Even a guy 5 miles from here was light copy and fading. It
wasn't until I moved to 80 late in the evening that I found success running and
my rate really showed it, but it was rather short-lived.

All in all I still love this contest. I think it's pretty cool how SK's are
"remembered" and honored in memoriam through the use of their names. I
tried that last year using "Milt" in "MI" to honor the
previous holder of my call W8MK, but that kind of backfired. It was a personal
choice, not a group effort to honor Milt, and it just resulted in many fill
requests. The switch to a 1X2 call has certainly improved my ability to get
through a pileup and I get very few fill requests on my call. The biggest is
that people call me W8MJ - a legend in these parts.

I'll be back in future events with renewed vigor and desire!
