Comments:
Park portable, Elecraft KX3, 31 ft vertical end-fed wire in tree, Buddipole 40m
vertical.
Conditions quite similar to last week - activity didn't last long on 20m,
although I was hitting NA skimmers with a decent signal on that band throughout
the hour.
I missed those first 10 minutes while completing setup of an experimental
Buddipole vertical with a 26 foot loaded radiator and 2 33-foot counterpoises. I
had somewhat better luck on 40 with it than with the short end-fed - 6 total
contacts tonight (2-CA 1-AZ 1-OR, 2-KH6), but QRP 40m DXing in daylight with any
portable antenna is a tough challenge. My hope is that it will be a better
performer in bigger contests when I want to operate for a few hours in the park
after dark.
Heather AH7RF and I worked our separate portable stations from the same picnic
table - it's nice to be able to chat and commiserate when the contact rate is so
low!
Thanks for the contacts - Aloha and 73/72,
Bob NH6O in Honolulu
