Comments:
Station is strongest on the high bands so it was great to have them open day and
night. Was happily surprised at conditions as my poor understanding of reading
propagation reports a couple days before the contest led me to think the worst.
Was really surprised to work so many EU stations that were QRP. I would
sometimes hear them coming in as loud as the next station that sent me 500 or
KW. Amazing. OA4 came in S9 too. Of course that was on 10 - 20 only.
Seemed like a non-ending supply of DK's and the number of JA's was great to see
too. Like K4BAI wrote "That's what contesters have been waiting for from
this
sunspot cycle."
SA stations had a strange fluttery sound as the gray line marched toward them.
It particularly surprised me since the line was still a couple-three hundred
miles off their coast. Had to be something related to residual CME effects.
Pleased to work so many new and hard to get (for my little low power station)
calls. 3D2, 4D, 4K6, BD, JT, FK, TK5, and V85 popped out as I looked through the
over 2,000 q's.
Enjoyed swapping places with KG9X and WO1N on the scoreboard. I'll get 'em next
time! Not excusing things because unexpected distractions are a key part of
contesting, but was called away several times and on some meds that made my head
fuzzy. I'm not great at pulling calls from big CW pileups without a fuzzy head
so I really messed things up this time. I apologize to all the folks who had to
be thinking "What a Lid" as I battled the big pileups. Practice will
improve things though. Please bear with me. Because of that I am unfortunately
expecting a large score reduction. One can hope though.
N1MM gave me fits from trying to use two keyboards. I'd hit a key on keyboard 1
and focus shifted to radio 2 with the letter appearing in the call entry field.
Once that happened I couldn't clear it no matter what. Reboot, shutdown and
restart, kill power to everything in the station and restart. Nothing helped.
Will try reloading N1MM, but wasn't going to do that in the middle of the
contest. So 14 or 16 hours into the contest I shifted to single radio. I'm sure
I lost out on many q's because of that.
Thank you World for such a great time!
