Comments:
Wow, what a smoking hot contest. It felt like the great conditions actually
pulled more people in to operate around the globe. The only disappointment was
160, which was pretty absorbed up here. Hard to work even the Caribbean guys.
JA was about the only DX there.
It is fun being a multiplier in this contest. Was amazed to be called by some
good mults while CQ-ing. In the WW contest, I am an ordinary zone 4 USA
station, but in the ARRL I am a rare state! It is cool to feel the excitement
on the other end when we make the Q. But the initial pileups on the high bands
when the band first opens to EU are a little intense. The doctrine of
"less is more" clearly does not apply -- guys just won't stop
transmitting.
Some of the best 40 meter runs to EU in any contest from here in this one. Even
had some fun on 80. But 20 was bleh until Sunday afternoon when it started to
sound good.
Had some cockpit issues the second night. For the first time in ages I
overslept during a contest. When I woke up from a second, unplanned slumber, a
nasty noise from some farm equipment someplace simply destroyed 80 meters. I
have only heard it one other time here in 15 years. Just 80 to JA, nothing else
affected.
All this action on 10 and 15 also revealed that my QRM between stations is
higher than it should be. It was tolerable, but I felt like I was using a stock
R4C receiver many times with all the buckshot and crap.
Now back to real world. It was nice playing with all of you this weekend!
