My linear started doing odd things Friday night. The amp would key it but it
stopped putting out RF. I worked a couple barefoot, but at 82 life's too short
for QRP. I turned off the linear and quit - I didn't operate on Saturday until
late Saturday night when I decided to check the Linear again. I hadn't touched
it AT ALL except to turn it off Friday night and back on 0500z Sunday - and the
darn thing worked FB on 10M. Wish there was an explanation - maybe it'll happen
again? Wish I'd tried the Linear earlier on Saturday!!
I decided to give it a go on Sunday. I'm not good about getting up early so I
just stayed up all night and started on 10M at 1200z Sunday. Was it open
earlier? Anyhow it was a barrel of fun. I finally stopped chasing the spots
and called CQ. My recording didn't sound right in the Monitor Audio so I went
"live". I managed 140/hour at one point My voice just doesn't hold
up and fortunately the cacophony of callers stopped - back to chasing Spots.
Biggest thrill of the Contest was working VR2XAN at 2358z Sunday.
