Comments:
I had hopes for a record-breaking contest now that we are well into the solar
cycle, but that was not to be. Conditions were not ideal, at one point on 15m
on Saturday there was a lot of polar flutter on all signals for an hour or two.
We had thunderstorms at night so the low bands were very noisy. Only 2 stations
worked on 160, the band just never opened.
Sunday morning was skew path on 10m until the last hour or so, I somehow managed
to work all but one province on 10m. I wonder what direction the SP stations
were pointing their antennas on 10m, as a few were quite strong but most were
extremely weak, perhaps not beaming their antennas to Africa for the equatorial
reflection to work the US.
This contest is a lot of fun, there is lots of activity from SP and never a
shortage of SP stations to find. It is hard work to cover all bands and both
modes and not miss anything, even with SO2R. It never gets boring even though
the rates are never very high. The SP's are very good operators and it's always
enjoyable to say hello to old friends.
My thanks to Dave K1ZZ and Linda KA1ZD for use of their fine SO2R station.
