K3EST brought 2 Special guests at N6O this year -- a CQP return of Gary VA7RR
(20 phone) and Dominique KI6NJW (40 daytime phone)
Once again the annual N6O multi-op brings the team together to mount an
operation that is akin to the business side of a dxpedition, with many bands qrv
in dual modes, coordination of power between team members, and hours of solid
pile up fun across the board. Murphy was around periodically.. but in the end
things were pretty good!
here is how it went for the team
10M - K3EST dual mode both Phone and CW. (5 X 5 X 5 stack) Bob once again put
on a winning performance working over 1500 qsos on the 10m band, 1264 on ssb.
he was working loud europeans on 10, and getting reports of 10-20 over s9 in
northern EU. a legendary op on a very productive band. some tech qlf with his
k3 curbed some of the cw activity there.. but he never stopped on phone so..
ya.
15M - N6WM dual mode both Phone and CW (6 x 6 x 6 stack) - 15m numbers were
slightly up this year from last, mostly with additional ssb qsos for a total of
1032 qsos on the band. like 10, got reports of 20-40 over s9 in Europe and many
many callers from UK and Italy and DL in addition to the sometimes harder to
work domestic contacts.
20M VA7RR Phone ( 5 X 5 X 5 stack) Another well known and great op to have in
the shack, Gary provided FB Bic and over 1100 qsos on 20 fone. 100% solid
performance by a great guy as always.
20 CW WU6P(relief from WD6T) (remote on TH6 Beam) Nian says 20 was open
throughout the contest, but faced some in band interference issues so was
appreciative of patience of callers needing fill requests.
40 CW WD6T (2L Vertical array) 40m CW rates were high, but petered out earlier
than usual. Numbers down from previous years; most likely because of activity
shifting to higher bands, as is typical for this point in solar cycle. Was
great to see VA7RR, but missed WA6O (SK) whose presence was missed.
40 Phone KI6NJW during daylight, WX5S Lead op (remote). (4 X 4 Stack)
It was great having Dominique KI6JNW on during the day, she raked in over 200
qsos that otherwise would have gone un worked.. and she is an awesome team mate
as well in the shack. A witty and delightful person. Matt WX5S comments - We
wound up short of the Q total from last year. Band was quieter than usual, but
signal strengths were a bit lacking. Many Qs happened when the calling station
was at the minimum signal strength for a PH Q. Activity also seemed to be down
and rates slowed down earlier than last year.
80 Phone - VA7RR (JK 801 Rot Dipole 160ft.) Gary Raked in what he could on 80
and did a fine business job as usual.
80 CW - WU6P (4sq) Nian powered though with a double performance handling 80m
cw. in his words - 80m is good. Since in CQP only have limited time on 80m, we
prioritize 80m cw over other bands. At 01Z we start to have 80m QSOs.
160M - N6RO (4 sq) -- Ken says up 20 Qs from last year. PGE noise back on,
couldn't get calls and numbers on several stns. Had RBNs all the way to NH, but
only logged WI as the farthest east
Some additional comments by N6RO -- good news, we beat last year's score and
highest since 2014, when we had 6000 Qs, 815K. I reviewed the 3830 scores back
to 2007, when we had much bigger numbers on the three low bands. I'll check
the archives for earlier years, around 2000, when N6IG made 2400 Qs on 10m!
Thanks to the team for a great show.
overall another successful performance by the team we thank everyone for the
many qsos and hope we put on a good show for all.
We all thank our host Ken N6RO for the station the operating opportunity and
Saturday dinner.
Everyone on this FB team did a great job on their assignments.
For the entire Team at N6O @ N6RO
73 and seeya next time
