Comments:
I spent a lot of time during the contest learning how to configure the receiver
settings on the K3 which Mike (W9RE) graciously loaned me for the contest and it
sure was a steep learning process with lots more to learn. I'm sure I will have
increased busted QSOs due to my unfamiliarity with the radio. The K3 receivers
dynamic range definitely helped me coup with the strong signal from my good
friend Jay (W9TC) who is a local as we always kill each others receivers during
160 meter contests. Halfway through the contest I did put my Hi-Per Mite active
audio filter inline and I felt that was a big improvement but probably because I
did not know how to properly use the internal audio peak filter on the K3.
Did not hear any Europeans but I also did not operate during their sunrise.
TX Antenna: 68 foot base loaded vertical wire hanging straight down from a very
tall Sycamore tree with 55 short buried radials (2500 feet of radials)
RX Antennas: 3 small point fed pennants (pointing 40, 160, and 300 degrees).
Audio Filter: Hi-Per-Mite active audio filter (200 Hz bandwidth).
73, Don (wd8dsb)
