Simply brilliant conditions on day 1, with propagation running to about 2am
local time - which has only happened to me back in 2002.! So much for 10m being
a daytime band. The following day witnessed a huge dead air period of about 8
hours and in the last 4 hours of the event, propagation picked up nicely.
Very much aware that 10m propagation favoured the northern latitudes of
Australia where I could hear local stations running, however, nothing heard in
the DX stakes until about 08:30am local both days.
Managed to work most of South America using backscatter with both ends point at
North America..! I often wonder what signals would be like if the SA stations
beamed at VK short path.. one day maybe..
Luckily I solved my laptop clock sync problem where the dBase 3+ logging
software sits under a Hyper-V virtual machine running Windows 7/32bit, sadly
none of the on-line forums were helpful. Past events like SAC and the OCDX event
literally had random time stamps on the QSO's, here is hoping those organisers
give me some leeway.
The 6 over 6 OWA yagi array gave me incredible ears, ears that were thwarted by
RF power output issues.
Regards,
David Burger VK2CZ operating as VJ2J.
