Comments:
Superb activity levels on 40 through 10 meters. Having limited antenna space I
didn’t bother with the low bands. The 40m band was absolutely insane Friday
night, a continuous roar, so with the higher bands mostly dead I dumped out,
watched some TV, and started over Saturday morning. I soon discovered a lively,
low-QRM 10m band--active all the way up to 28.900--and made it my main hunting
ground.
Being the poster child for that new ARRL SS “Limited Antennas Overlay”
category (a vertical and low-height dipoles), I was unable to reach great
distances (Asia, South Pacific, Africa)—e.g. the pileups for ZM1A and ZL7IO
went around the block--so I contented myself with EU and islands of the
Mediterranean, the Atlantic, the Caribbean, and CN3A/Morocco. Propagation did
dip a couple of times during the contest, a possible limiter on distant QSOs.
Heard but unable to work, mostly because of competition: 9K9C/Kuwait, RU1A,
ZM1A, ZL7IO, EA9ACD/Ceuta, and a very popular HZ0YL :-)
Onward to Sweepstakes . . . 73!
