Comments:
It took nearly two days to repair the TH6, with a side trip to troubleshoot and
repair the brake release on the HAM IV, but I finished in time to take a little
nap before the contest. In past years I have started the contest running EU
stations on the low end of 40M. Not so this year, so I switched to 20M and was
more productive. As many have observed, the low bands were punk, but I was able
to rock and bop on the high bands. There were no "clear" frequencies,
so I would squeeze into a spot and start CQing. After a few minutes the pileup
became deep and non-stop. I didn't really set a goal, but I thought that 3M
points and 3K QSOs should be doable. Even with a handful of mini breaks, that's
where I finished.
It is always a motivator to be called by friends from back home and from back
when. This year was extra special because a group of friends operated my home
station using my call sign. What a hoot it was to hear K2DM calling me in a
pileup. Maybe some of them will join me down here next year.
73,
George K2DM / VP2MDM
