Comments:
Double whammy weekend. Winnipeg Jets game Saturday night and Winnipeg Blue
Bombers CFL Championship game Sunday afternoon (we lost). So I only had about 12
hours to play in SS. My Radiosport Manitoba colleague Ed VE4VT chose LP
(masochist) and struggled with maintaining rates and deep QSB. I thought
conidtions were not that bad. I was hoping for more Qs on 10 m but that didn't
happen. 20 M is still the money band from VE4. Worked LOTS of Multi (M)
stations, which I hope is teaching a new crop of contesters the ins and outs of
sweepstakes. A few 2023 Checks were noted, but not many. More 2022.
Surprised at how tough SDG section was to work. Searched hard for PR for the
sweep also and found found a weak one on 15 m but also eventually worked a
strong KP3 later on.
Considering I only worked 12 hours, I'm pretty happy with the score. As the
cycle gets better, I'm going to have to think about a more serious effort in
coming years. Fortunately, thanks to Radiosport Manitoba, we have a few more
VE4s to give out the mult - at least in the SSB version of Sweepstakes.
Hoping that old sol cooperates and gives us good condx for the upcoming 10 m
contest...another personal fav.
Look for me from Jamaica VE4GV/6Y in the ARRL DX CW in Feb., my 38th trip to
Jamaica.
Thanks for the Qs. Its always fun to say hi to familiar calls and give out the
VE4 mult for SS . Its like being rare DX!
