Finally I managed myself into the RAC Winter! Great contest! Thank you for the
Qs!
Description: 10 meters was closed. But the rest of the bands were ok. My SO2R
mini setup miserably failed in the mid of the first QSO and I spent an hour
trying to recover. Finally decided to switch to SO2V with K1EL. A bit harder if
compared to independent radios and constrained me to a single band (antenna
limitation) but was ok and I felt quite a bit of improvement compared to earlier
attempts. Due to rain the ZS6BKW needed a tuner on all the bands. ZX2000 also
was detuned by rain to the extent that I need to put a tuner for all the bands.
There is a huge noise source in 50% of CW portion on 20 and 10 meters that
turned on early in the morning 9-10 am PST and stayed on till late night. I
started with 10m on the first day, that probably was OK decision though I need
to learn to use forecasts for contest planning particularly when unassisted.
Second day started from 20 and moved up.
